Opening Ceremony of Information and Communications Engineering Master Class of MOFCOM Held

On October 27, the opening ceremony of Information and Communications Engineering Master Class of Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM) was held. Chen Jianguo, Vice-president of Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST), Liu Mingzhe, Business Counselor at the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in the Republic of Namibia and 34 international students from 16 countries attended the ceremony online.



Chen Jianguo pointed out that HUST always takes an active part in foreign assistance and regards training talents for other countries, especially the Belt and Road countries, as its own responsibility. Since HUST began to undertake the program in 2017, 132 talents in the field of Information and Communications Engineering from 37 countries have been cultivated. He hoped that students can learn useful knowledge at HUST and make their own contributions to building the community of shared future for mankind.


Liu Mingzhe pointed out that China stays committed to multilateral cooperation to deliver mutual benefit. More than 30,000 international human resources cooperation programs have been accomplished, and nearly 400,000 administrative and technical staff from over 500 countries have been invited to study in China. He hoped that students can overcome the difficulties brought by the COVID-19 pandemic, make good use of the first-class education resources at HUST, and promote the cooperation between their countries and China.  


KHANTSE MOLEBOHENG MOHOHLO from Kingdom of Lesotho of the class 2019 hoped that new students can be the bridge connecting their own countries and China by contributing to promoting the international cooperation and exchange. Assefa Tesfay Abraha from Ethiopia of the class 2018 suggested that new students communicate more with their supervisors and classmates, and take the chance to learn Chinese and Chinese culture. NGHIPANDULWA TENNA TANGA from the Ministry of Agriculture of Namibia, as the new student representative, mentioned in his speech that Africa still faces the crisis in food security. Therefore, he hoped that he can enrich his professional knowledge at HUST and learn experience from China’s development so as to make his own contributions to ensuring the long-term food security in Africa.


Qiu Caiming, Dean of the School of Electronic Information and Communications (EIC) of HUST. Pointed out that EIC will provide high-quality teaching resources for international students, and strive to train high-level talents in the field of Information and Communications Engineering for the global community, especially the Belt and Road countries.


Faculty from the School of Postgraduates and the School of International Education also attended the opening ceremony.
