On the afternoon of September 26, EIC held the opening ceremony for undergraduate students of 2021 at the lecture hall of Qiming College. Zheng Xiaojian, Secretary of the Party Committee of EIC, Qiu Caiming, Dean of EIC, Cheng Wenqing, Deputy Dean of EIC, Ge Xiaohu, Deputy Dean of EIC, representatives of alumni, teachers in charge of the freshmen classes and student counsellors attended the ceremony. Chen Shiying, Vice-secretary of the EIC Party Committee, hosted the ceremony.
The opening ceremony commenced with Chinese national anthem. Qiu Caiming delivered a speech on behalf of EIC. First, he extended his warm welcome and heartfelt congratulations to the class of 2021. Then, he told the development history of EIC, which has great scientific research strength, high-quality faculty and outstanding alumni. He hoped that the freshmen could strive to make great contributions to national rejuvenation, study hard and work hard, and stay innovative to solve bottleneck problems.
Li Kai, representative of EIC alumni, shared his own experience at EIC and encouraged the class of 2021 to set up long-term goals, to cultivate themselves in an all-round way, and to do exercise on a regular basis to improve their physical condition.
Professor Li Qiang, representative of EIC faculty, hoped that the freshmen could stay innovative, have both integrity and professional competence, enrich their life experience and persevere in their life journey.
Deng Meng, senior representative, shared her experience at HUST. She pointed out that it is important for freshmen to make plans for the future and be brave to try new things. At the same time, freshmen should continuously improve their academic competence so as to serve the country.
Cai Zeyang, freshman representative, mentioned that it may be inevitable for freshmen to find themselves at a loss when they go to college. Therefore, it is necessary for them to discover their potentials by trail and error and finally find the right direction to march forward.
At the end of the opening ceremony, the leaders of EIC presented the letters of appointment to the teachers in charge of the freshmen classes, and the certificates of honor to the outstanding students in military training.
